Frequent Questions About CRT (Ortho-K)
Q: What is myopia?
A: Myopia is the most common cause of nearsightedness. It results in blurry distance vision, but clear near vision. A myopic eye is too long for the focusing lenses (the cornea and the crystalline lens). Since the focus is short, the distance is blurry.
Q: How do CRT Ortho-K lenses focus my eyes?
A: The CRT lens (or mold) gently reshapes the cornea while you sleep. The change in shape lengthens the focus of the cornea to produce clear vision.
Q: How long does it take to for CRT to work, and how long will it last?
A: Patients usually experience improved distance vision after one night of wear. The effect will last longer as the molding process proceeds, and we expect patient's to have clear vision during all of their awake time. The molding process is usually complete in one-to-two weeks of wear. Retainer lenses must be worn regularly to maintain the Ortho-K effect that is achieved during the molding process.
Q: Is Ortho-K permanent?
A: No, Ortho-K is a not a surgical procedure, so no corneal tissue is removed like with surgical vision correction. If a patient stops wearing the lenses, then the corneas will return to their original shape.
Q: Are CRT lenses safe to use?
A: Yes, CRT lenses are FDA approved as a safe and effective treatment. The risk of adverse events is about the same as wearing traditional contact lenses.
Q: Will my insurance pay for CRT?
A: Maybe, vision plans vary on what they will cover. We will handle every case on it's own merits, and apply any vision plan benefit toward the cost of CRT if it is available.
Q: How do I know if I am a candidate and get started with CRT?
A: Call us @ 323-294-7517 for a free consultation appointment. It is possible for us to get started with your CRT immediately after the completion of your consultation.
